22nd Penalty of the game gets Villarreal to win their first ever European Title.

Villarreal won their first European trophy as they beat Manchester United on penalties in the final of the UEFA Europa League 2021. The Spanish side played their first final of their history and won it in the 22nd penalty which was denied by their goal Keeper Gerónimo Rulli.

The game was very much dominated by Manchester United in the first half, however a mistake at the back a set piece was converted to a goal by Gerrard Moreno in the 29th minute of the game. United however still looked dominating of the two and continued to seek the equalizer. The secore was 1-0 in the first half.

Edinson Cavani scored a crucial goal in the 53rd minute of the game to give the Reds an equaliser. But it stayed the same untill the 90 minutes got over. Match then went on to extra time and the United side however looked slightly on the defensive side and the match went to then penalties.

All players took the perfect penalties and neither David DeGea nor Gerónimo Rulli could save any of the penalties untill these goalkeepers had to take the shot themselves. Gerónimo Rulli went first an fired from the spot into the back of the net. However, the Spaniard De Gea could not score on his turn and rolled the ball in the hands of the Villarreal Goal keeper.

It was a match worth matching and filled with emotions from both set of fans. The presence of Santi Carzola and the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Wayne Rooney and his son made it a special day in the night of Europa League. Unai Emery proved why the Europa League is reffered as Unai Emery League once again and Villarreal will now play against the winner of the UEFA Champions League finalist in the UEFA SUPER CUP and have to chance to win their second European title .
